Take A Step Back in Time
@ The Killarney Outlet Centre's Traditional Crafts extravaganzar
Bank Holiday Weekend 30th July – 1st August 2011
Killarney Summerfest will be celebrating the UN International Year of the Forest and 2011 Year of Craft at the Killarney Outlet Centre on Saturday 30th July, Sunday 31st July & Monday 1st August. This unique event captures the imagination of the whole family with something of interest for all ages:
- ArtRecycleFest with free workshops from 1 pm to 5pm each day and take home your own crafty creation
- Puppet Shows with Sean O' Laoghaire of Glitter na Gig upstairs near O'Briens Café at 2 pm and 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
- Rediscover your senses with Down To Earth's guided sensory tent where you can relish and guess a range of natural textures and materials (while barefoot and blindfolded!) - Sunday only.
- Take some time out with artist Felix Powers work, where nature becomes art. Wood, grass, moss, metal - change what surrounds us into something strange, living, beautiful.
- Arts and Crafts Fair
The Traditional Crafts Village event will also take place in the green area at the front of the Killarney Outlet Centre on Saturday 30th July, Sunday 31st July from 12pm – 6pm, which will come alive with the sights and sounds of traditional craftspeople demonstrating their trades.
Shoppers will be intrigued and fascinated by the time-honoured techniques of the spinner and weaver, tinsmith/coppersmith, willow weave basket-maker, stone carver, blacksmith, and harness-maker. They will see a traditional circular nomadic Yurt being built from natural materials; and will be able to try their hand at medieval weapons and armoury and traditional longbows and arrows. Meanwhile the bodger will be shaping wood on his foot-operated pole lathe.
Paul Sherry, General Manager at the Killarney Outlet Centre, is looking forward to the event “This bank holiday weekend will be a great way for families to spend a fun day together watching craftspeople demonstrating their trades whilst experiencing some of the age old traditions including spinning and weaving. There will also be huge savings of up to 70% off normal retail prices at the Killarney Outlet Centre’s stores and Spin South West will be broadcasting live here on the Saturday .”
The Killarney Outlet Centre’s Arts and Craft Fair will take place on Saturday 30th July, Sunday 31st July and Monday 1st August, from 11am to 6pm.
